Worker dies at Tunnel-2 of Veligonda Project

A worker died in an accident at Tunnel-2 of Veligonda Project site in Markapuram district. The deceased has been identified as Montilal, a native of Uttar Pradesh. According to the sources, the accident took place when he was struck by a hydraulic machine in the tunnel.

Responding on the death of the worker, Minister for Water Resources Nimmala Ramanaidu spoke with the project’s Chief Engineer (CE) and representatives of the construction contractor Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL) to gather more details.

The Minister expressed shock over the death of Montilal, and directed the officials and agency representatives to provide all feasible assistance to his family members. He also expressed deep regret that such an incident occurred while the project work was in its final stages.

The Minister instructed the office-holders and agency representatives to accord top priority to worker safety during tunnel construction activities. However, the project office-holders remained tight-lipped, and did not respond to either the calls or messages of the reporter.
