Sinema testified that she had sent her bodyguard lover, Matthew Ammel, a signal message saying "I miss you" on Oct. 3, 2024 – only to receive a harsh reply that apparently came from his wife, Heather Ammel. "Are you having an affair with my husband?" the message read.

Heather Ammel afterwards testified in North Carolina federal court that Sinema "groomed" her husband. This person had been struggling with depression – saying she "had her hooks" in him.

"I felt completely powerless, " Heather Ammel remarked of watching her marriage collapse.

"It's me against a United States senator who has power and money, " she remarked. "And she had her hook in him."

Asked whether she felt Sinema's behavior amounted to "grooming" her now ex-husband, she remarked, "Yes."
