For context, the police remarked Shankar, 53, a resident of School Street in Koyambedu, runs a tiffin shop. On July 31, Shankar was riding towards the Koyambedu market when Ramesh, 42, of Kollimedu in Avadi, allegedly intercepted him. He took Shankar's vehicle key, claiming that he needed to conduct a check. He asked Shankar to blow into a device and informed him that he smelt of alcohol. He then took possession of his two-wheeler, created Shankar sit behind him, and rode towards School Street.

After travelling some distance, Ramesh remarked he had to collect his bag and asked Shankar to secure off the two-wheeler. He then fled with the vehicle. When he failed to return, Shankar lodged a complaint with the CMBT police station.

Based on the complaint, the police introduced an investigation and arrested Ramesh. This person was working as a token attendant at a two-wheeler parking facility in Koyambedu.
