TUDA chairman C,
A team from Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) took a German delegation to various water bodies. Divakar Reddy and vice-chairman R. Govinda Rao led the team comprising International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) officials, senior engineer Norbert Geyer, and principal portfolio manager Rainer Suennen, both representing Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) Frankfurt.
Mr. Divakar Reddy called it a great opportunity to collaborate towards transforming Tirupati into a ‘City of Lakes’, in tune with the vision of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
The idea is to reduce the impact of floods and improve water resilience by strengthening the chain tanks, in anticipation of significant urbanisation in the days to come, he added
“TUDA has already shown the way by initiating work on the Avilala tank and establishing interconnectivity with Peruru tank”, Mr. Divakar said.
He expressed hope that the proposed activities would commence by October 2026 and take a phased approach to ensure optimal results.
Calling it a ‘high priority initiative for the city’, vice-chairman R. Govinda Rao recalled how the government had provided extraordinary approval for availing a loan, despite financial constraints. He said: “TUDA is committed to addressing pollution of water bodies through release of sewage.”
