THATTA – The Sindh administration has suspended Dr. Muhammad Yamin Shah, Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital Makli, Thatta, and issued him a show-cause notice over alleged negligence that led to the deaths of a woman and her newborn.

As per the complaint, Rahila was admitted to Civil Hospital Thatta around 1: 00 AM. She delivered a baby boy through normal delivery. The complaint alleges the infant died within 30 minutes of birth and that postpartum bleeding was not properly managed. Rahila's condition reportedly deteriorated and she died afterwards the same morning. Taking note of the severity of the incident, the Health Department constituted an inquiry committee headed by the Deputy Director General, Directorate General Health Services Sindh, Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, the committee discovered that as head of the hospital, the MS is responsible for overall management and supervision, including the gynecology ward. It concluded that Dr. Shah failed to properly organize and oversee the ward, leading to serious lapses in medical facilities and patient care. The notice termed this misadministration and inefficiency.

In a show-cause notice signed by Chief Secretary Sindh Asif Hyder Shah, the competent authority proposed a penalty under Rule 4 of the 1973 Rules. The authority remarked appointing another inquiry officer was not deemed necessary.Dr. Shah has been directed to submit a written reply within 14 days of receiving the notice, failing which an ex-parte decision will be taken. He has additionally been given the option to request a personal hearing. In a follow-up letter dated August 19, 2026, the Health Department instructed the District Health Officer Thatta to serve the notice to Dr. Shah and submit a signed acknowledgment.
