The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Monday directed Judicial Magistrate IV to conduct an inquiry into the death of a 55-year-old man, Paramasivam. Murugan directed that the postmortem of the body be conducted by a team of three Senior Professors from the Forensic Departments of Madurai, Theni and Sivaganga Government Medical College Hospitals.

The court appointed Advocate Aayiram K. Selvakumar as Court Commissioner in the case to ascertain if CCTV cameras were installed at the police station and file a report.

The court was hearing a petition filed by Ayyammal, wife of Paramasivam, of Mela Anuppanadi. The petitioner alleged that her husband was assaulted by police personnel of Chintamani police station on July 19 in the name of inquiry. The couple and their neighbours had quarrelled over parking of a vehicle.

She said her husband sustained head injury and was admitted to Administration Rajaji Hospital for treatment. On August 5, he was shifted to a private hospital for treatment. However, he succumbed to the injury on August 16.

The petitioner sought a direction to the GRH Dean to conduct the postmortem with a team of three Senior Professors from the Forensic Departments of Madurai, Theni and Sivaganga Administration Medical College Hospitals.

She also sought a direction to the Commissioner of Police to preserve the CCTV footage at the police station.

On Sunday, an RDO inquiry was ordered into the complaint of the death of the 55 year-old man.

Keeraithurai police have registered a case of suspicious death and RDO Melur has kicked off inquiry.
