TIRUPATTUR: Demanding permanent employee status, around 15 load workers from the Vaniyambadi Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) staged a protest in front of the Taluk operation godown on Friday. The protest is part of the state-wide strike by the TNCSC loadmen demanding wage revision, permanent employee status and recognition of the workers' union. While the other 15 are still temporary employees, according to the Tirupattur workers, out of 30 load workers, only 15 have been granted permanent status in the taluk operation godown. They alleged that temporary workers' attendance has been tampered with by in-charges at the godown, leading to low wages. "We've been working as loadmen for more than 8-15 years, but we have still not been granted permanent worker status, " remarked the protesting workers.
