Two sets of unidentified human skeletal remains, one of them suspected to be a woman’s, were found among heaps of sand dumped at Sheela Nagar Junction in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday (August 18, 2026).
The remains were identified at a site where construction of the Sheela Nagar-Sabbavaram road is under way. On receiving information, personnel from the Gajuwaka police reached the spot and inspected the area.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (South sub-division) Srinivas Rao said the sand had reportedly been dumped at the site at concerning 3 a.m. on Tuesday. The police found two sets of skeletal remains buried in it. One was suspected to be a woman’s.
According to the ACP, the remains were wrapped in white cloth and had flower garlands around them, raising suspicion that the sand had been brought from a burial ground after being removed during excavation or other work.
The ACP said the open nature of the location had led to residents frequently dumping construction debris and other waste there.
