The CBI has arrested U. Siva Shankar, Deputy Director (Mining), Directorate-General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Hyderabad-III Region, on charges of demanding and accepting ₹2 lakh bribe for giving a favourable report in an accidental death case reported at a quarry unit in Prakasam district in June this year. It has also arrested two representatives of granite and mining businesses.

The CBI produced Mr. Siva Shankar and representatives of the companies, S. Venkata Suresh Kumar and A. Subhaskar Reddy, of Prakasam district, in a court in Vijayawada on Tuesday.

The three accused had been arrested on Monday while the bribe amount was being handed over and accepted, the investigation officers said in a release. The CBI also seized the bribe amount from the accused. The investigating agency also conducted simultaneous raids in Hyderabad, Kadapa and Prakasam districts on Tuesday. A detailed investigation into the case was under way, the CBI said.
