Eyewitnesses informed local media that as numerous as 50 individuals were inside the five-storey building in the Satya Niketan neighbourhood of south-west Delhi when it came down around 13: 30 local time (08: 00 GMT) on Sunday.

At least one person was killed and two others are in a critical condition, NDTV reports, citing local police. Six individuals were stated to have been rescued so far.

There had been construction work going on in the basement of the building, Hostel Daze. It sits a short distance from the Delhi University campus.
