Ford has recalled more than 220, 000 vehicles due to a fuel tank defect that could growth the risk of a crash or fire, according to a notice published on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.
Notably, the automaker issued the recall on Sept. 9, warning that a "detached tank can create a road hazard, increasing the risk of crash." Additionally, a fuel leak can "cause an engine stall or increase the risk of fire, " the recall notice adds.
According to Ford, the affected vehicles "are equipped with front fuel tank straps that may have been improperly assembled" from Jan. 4, 2023, through Aug. 27, 2026. Fuel tank straps are solid metal bands that hold a vehicle's fuel tank to its chassis or frame, per O'Reilly Auto Parts.
