UMass Dartmouth football player Marvins Antoine died early on Saturday, Sept. 19 after he was stabbed in Providence, Rhode Island, police confirmed.

Police chief Oscar L. Perez remarked in a Saturday news conference that Antoine, 18, was stabbed in the chest during an altercation that began outside the Mezzo Lounge and continued in a Wendy's parking lot.

Police identified the suspect as Chukuwnonso Uzoma-eze, 19, a student at the university. His vehicle was identified by surveillance cameras, police remarked, and he was arrested by UMass Dartmouth police.

He faces an arrest warrant for murder and authorities are working to extradite him to face charges, stated Perez. This person indicated the investigation is ongoing.

"There were several patrons that were trying to get into the establishment and at some point, it was determined that no one else was coming in because it was over capacity, " Perez remarked. "A female was leaving and was involved in an altercation with the victims. The female actually knew the suspect, and there's where the disturbance and the disagreement escalated to this unfortunate homicide."
