At a time when the political discourse is seized with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the Census is underway, the RSS on Tuesday pressed a nationwide National Register of Citizens (NRC) and stated that identifying citizens was necessary to address "population imbalance" and protect the country's "unity, integrity and security".

Speaking at an event at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), RSS publicity in-charge Sunil Ambekar remarked there was a need to identify residents who had been "wrongly included" in electoral rolls and to ensure citizenship for those who had come to India from neighbouring countries under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
