Former Rajya Sabha member V. Vijayasai Reddy said on Wednesday (August 19, 2026) that he would float a new political party in Andhra Pradesh. It ends 19 months of speculation about his return to public life.
He stated so after praying at the Tirumala temple with his family for the venture. The party’s main aim would be to make the residents’s voice heard in Parliament and the Assembly, he said, and it would be a platform to take up their difficulties and fight on their behalf.
Citing the bar on political talk at Tirumala, he said he would set out his roadmap to the media in Vijayawada afterwards this month.
From Jagan’s aide to a party of his own
Mr. Vijayasai Reddy, 69, is a chartered accountant from Nellore who was for years among the closest figures to the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leadership. He was the family auditor of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, a founding member of the YSRCP, its national general secretary and its leader in the Rajya Sabha. He served there from 2016 until he resigned in January 2025.
He contested the Nellore Lok Sabha seat in 2024 and lost to the TDP’s Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy. In an earlier chapter, he was arrested by the CBI in 2012 in the disproportionate assets case against Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy, and was granted bail.
