Technical sanction has been received for the 190-million-litre-per-day (MLD) water treatment plant proposed in Aluva to address drinking water shortages in the Kochi Corporation and nearby municipalities and grama panchayats. A Kerala Water Authority (KWA) source said the agency could proceed with the tendering process.
In an official note issued on Monday (August 17, 2026), T. J. Vinod, MLA, said a major hurdle in the project’s implementation had been cleared with the administration granting permission. The MLA added the project would significantly improve drinking water supply in Kochi and its surrounding areas and provide a permanent solution to the current shortage.
