The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) has approved a Rs. 36 billion PC-I for the Daducha Dam Water Supply Project. It will provide an additional 35 million gallons of water per day to Rawalpindi city and the cantonment.

Under the project, authorities will transport water from Daducha Dam through a 28-kilometre pipeline, install filtration plants and develop a distribution network to supply the city and cantonment areas.

The project cost will be shared equally between Rawalpindi city and the cantonment, with Rs. 18 billion allocated to each.

However, the Punjab Cabinet will decide whether the federal or provincial administration will finance the cantonment’s Rs. 18 billion share. It will also determine how the further water supply will be divided between the city and cantonment.

While the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) will develop the infrastructure needed to transport and distribute the water, the Punjab Irrigation Department is currently constructing Daducha Dam. The project aims to ease the severe water shortage affecting Rawalpindi and the cantonment and provide residents with a more reliable water supply.
