Over 4,500 auto-rickshaw drivers and their family members are set to benefit from a free comprehensive mega medical camp that is being organised soon by the Visakhapatnam City Police. The camp is being held in collaboration with the Sri Sathya Sai Trust for Universal Welfare, Sri Sathya Sai Divyamritham, the Road Safety Forum, and the Visakha City Security Council.
During the launch of the programme at the police commissionerate, Commissioner of Police Shankabratha Bagchi said that the initiative was taken up with an aim to provide better physical and mental health among auto drivers. It would assist improve their alertness and fitness while driving, thereby contributing to safer roads and potentially reducing road accidents.
He stated that the medical camps will be conducted soon at a number of locations across the city including Railway Station, Kancharapalem, Maddilapalem, PM Palem, Bheemili, Pendurthi, Gajuwaka, and Duvvada.
He noted that the camps will provide a broad set of medical screening and consultation services through mobile medical units and health ATMs. These will include general health check-ups, blood pressure, diabetes, and thyroid screening, eye examinations, and dental check-ups, along with oral cancer screening. Specialised services will include gynaecological consultations and screening for breast and cervical cancer for women. The beneficiaries will also be provided free medicines for 10 days.
