The Karnataka government on Tuesday unveiled the composition of the Cabinet sub-committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwar, set up to review the revision of minimum wages.
The committee will study whether the May 22, 2026, notification enhancing minimum wages is in consonance with the Code on Wages, 2019, brought by the Union government. The decision to constitute the sub-committee was taken by the Cabinet. It deliberated on minimum wages on August 13.
While labour unions have welcomed the revision of minimum wages, pending for nearly five years, industries have resisted it, stating that the hike is too steep and could drive away investments.
The committee comprises Heavy and Medium Industries Minister M.B. Patil, Home, IT, BT and e-Governance Minister Priyank Kharge, Health and Family Welfare, Minorities Welfare, Haj and Wakf Minister U.T. Khader, Labour and Employment Minister Santhosh Lad, Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa, Small Scale Industries and Public Undertakings Minister Vijayanand Kashappanavar, and Municipal Administration Minister H.C. Balakrishna.
