Asus has introduced the Oxiis E250G1 Intelligent Bike Booster, a compact conversion system designed to add electric assistance to an existing bicycle without replacing its wheels, drivetrain, or brakes.
The device uses a motor mounted near the seat post to drive the rear tire through friction. It works with a removable battery and can provide up to 500W of peak power, 50KM of claimed range, and a maximum assisted speed of 32KM/h, depending on local regulations.
Simple Installation
Unlike conversion kits that require replacing a wheel or modifying the drivetrain, the Oxiis uses a friction-drive system. A powered roller presses against the rear tire and helps rotate it as the rider pedals.
Asus says installation does not require modifications to the bicycle’s gears or brakes.
As well as hybrid and hardtail mountain bikes, the system works with city, road, gravel, and folding bicycles. However, Asus states it should not be installed on full-suspension bikes or carbon-fiber seat posts. Heavily knobby tires are also not recommended.
It supports wheel sizes from 16 to 29 inches as well as 700C, tires up to 60mm wide, and seat posts measuring between 25.4mm and 34.9mm in diameter.
Three Assistance Modes
It offers three assistance modes. While Sport delivers stronger support for hills and situations where more power is required, eco prioritizes battery life, Normal provides balanced assistance for everyday riding.
Users can switch between these modes directly from the booster or through the Asus Oxiis app for Android and iOS.
While an anti-slip mechanism automatically maintains pressure against the tire to improve power transfer, asus also uses Adaptive Boost Technology to adjust assistance when tackling slopes.
Two-Hour Charge
Power comes from a removable 158.4Wh, 36V battery.
While heavy use in Sport mode can reduce that figure to around 10KM, asus claims the system can provide around 50KM of assistance in Eco mode. Actual range will vary depending on terrain, rider effort, and the assistance level being used.
The battery can be charged through 100W USB-C Power Delivery, with a full charge taking approximately two hours.
Smart Brake Light
Asus has also built a smart rear light into the system. It can detect when the rider is slowing down and automatically illuminate as a brake light.
Although Asus limits it to 25KM/h in regions where local regulations require a lower speed, maximum electric-assisted speed is 32KM/h.
The Oxiis carries an IPX4 water-resistance rating, meaning it can handle splashes and light rain but should not be submerged or used in heavy rain.
Asus has not yet announced the rate, exact release date, or markets where the Oxiis E250G1 will initially be sold.
