Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao has expressed concern over the alleged illegal collection of fees by private medical colleges from MBBS students admitted through NEET, despite clear guidelines issued by the Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC).
For context, the TAFRC has mandated that the fee for the four-and-a-half-year MBBS course be collected in five instalments. Nevertheless, a number of private medical colleges are allegedly violating these norms by collecting the entire fee for five years in advance, he alleged at a press meet at the State BJP office on Friday.
Mr. Rao remarked the practice has placed a significant financial burden on students and their families, with the excess amount collected reportedly ranging between ₹13 lakh and ₹20 lakh per student. He observed that both TAFRC Chairman Justice Gopal Reddy and the High Court have issued clear directives requiring the immediate refund of excess fees collected by private colleges. Despite these rulings, the refunds have allegedly not been created in a number of cases.
Demanding immediate intervention, the BJP leader pressed the State Administration, the Principal Secretary of the Health Department and the Director of Medical Education (DME) to take stringent action against institutions violating the regulations.
He called upon the authorities to ensure that all excess fees collected from students are refunded without delay and that strict compliance with TAFRC guidelines is enforced throughout private medical colleges in the State. Reaffirming the BJP's backing for affected students, he stated the party would continue to raise the matter until justice is delivered and students receive the refunds due to them.
For now, BJP seeks action against pvt medical colleges over excess fee collection remains the part of the story worth watching, and further updates are likely as more details are confirmed.
