Thousands of members of the Pakistani community gathered in Mississauga, Canada, to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day at a large-scale Pakistan Festival.
Organized with the cooperation of Geo News and Geo Entertainment, the event was described as one of the largest Pakistan Independence Day celebrations held in North America.
Canadian federal and provincial ministers, parliamentarians, mayors and councilors also attended the festival.
Federal Treasury Board President and Minister Shafqat Ali, provincial minister Zee Hamid, Senator Salma Ataullah Jan and parliamentarians Iqra Khalid and Rana Aslam extended Independence Day greetings to the Pakistani community.
What happened
Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish and Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown also praised the Pakistani community for its contribution to Canada’s development and prosperity.
The festival featured performances by Pakistani singers Rahim Shah, Bilal Khan and Ayush Rabbani, along with local artists. While Rahim Shah entertained the crowd with his popular tracks, a local pipe band also performed national songs.
The celebrations continued with dancing and chants of “Pakistan Zindabad,” as the Pakistani community marked Independence Day with enthusiasm.
