Canara Bank’s move to adopt a village in Dharwad district and undertake development work under the Village Adoption Scheme is a significant step towards the overall development of rural areas, Deputy Commissioner Snehal R. said in Dharwad on August 16.

She appreciated the bank for identifying local needs and prioritising development in education, drinking water, healthcare, sports and public infrastructure.

Under the scheme, a number of public-oriented initiatives are being undertaken, including establishing libraries, giving desks, furniture and computer equipment to schools, constructing toilets for girls, ensuring access to clean drinking water, developing community halls, providing sports facilities, setting up open gyms, and constructing bus shelters in Karnataka.

“It is a positive development that the bank has joined hands with the community and the government of Karnataka as part of its social responsibility,” she said.

Canara Bank Hubballi-Dharwad Deputy General Manager Rajeevkumar Pandey remarked the bank had allocated ₹10 lakh for rural development under its Village Adoption Scheme.

“The village was selected in consultation with the Deputy Commissioner after identifying the local requirements,” he said.
