Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Wednesday remarked Cheruvumadharam village in Nelakondapalli mandal of Khammam district would be developed as a model solar village as part of the State government's initiative to promote green energy.

Meanwhile, the Minister, along with Khammam Collector Divakara T.S., inaugurated 2-kW rooftop solar systems in the village as part of the State government's pilot initiative to transform Telangana into a model solar State.

Of the 966 households in the village availing themselves of free power up to 200 units a month under the Gruha Jyothi scheme, 713 households have been initially selected for the model solar village programme, official sources remarked.

Mr. Srinivas Reddy remarked rooftop solar systems would additionally be provided for 10-HP agricultural pumpsets under the programme. The initiative would enable households to meet their electricity requirements and supply surplus power to the grid, receiving financial benefits as per the applicable norms.

Earlier, the Minister distributed retrofitted three-wheeler motorcycles to differently-abled persons at a programme in Kusumanchi mandal headquarters. He additionally inaugurated a gram panchayat office building at Pallegudem village and participated in other development programmes in the Palair Assembly constituency.
