Kerala Women’s Commission (KWC) chairperson P. Sathidevi has urged strengthening internal committees in workplaces to prevent atrocities against women.
Speaking after a sitting of the KWC at the Kozhikode Collectorate conference hall on Monday (August 17), Ms. Sathidevi said all administration offices and private institutions should have functional internal committees and details of the committees should be prominently displayed.
Employees should be sensitised about the functioning of the committees and an effective monitoring mechanism should additionally be put in place, she said.
Ms. Sathidevi also called on the public to make maximum apply of the free counselling services launched at the KWC’s regional centres. While police reports were sought in nine cases and one was referred for counselling.
, counselling is available at the Kozhikode regional centre on every Monday and Wednesday, and several complaints are being resolved through the facility, she stated.
The complaints received at the sitting included domestic violence, breakdown of family relationships, workplace harassment, alleged grabbing of a differently abled woman’s property using forged documents, failure to care for an elderly mother and cheating in financial transactions.
Of the 41 complaints received at the sitting, one was resolved.
