The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has detained 258 foreign nationals, including 40 Chinese citizens.
An FIA official told AFP that the operation was conducted at Gulberg Green, a housing society on the outskirts of the capital.
“They were running a scam call center,” the official said, adding that the foreigners had entered Pakistan on tourist visas and were not permitted to carry out such activities.
The detainees are currently being held at a jail in Rawalpindi. While an investigation into the alleged activities is underway, the FIA has informed the respective embassies about the detentions.
What happened
The official said authorities would release further details concerning the allegations over the next few days. Deportation could also be considered for those identified involved in illegal activities.
Media reports said the foreigners were detained last week.
When 149 people, including 71 foreigners mostly from China, were arrested over allegations of operating a substantial call center involved in Ponzi schemes and investment fraud, the latest operation follows a similar FIA raid in July 2025.
