The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has foiled an alleged attempt to traffic a 13-year-old girl to Saudi Arabia through Faisalabad Airport using a fake marriage certificate.
According to FIA officials, the girl, identified as Hira Firdous and a resident of Burewala, was being sent to Saudi Arabia on an Umrah visa.
During inspection and verification of her travel documents at Faisalabad Airport, officials identified that her Nikahnama (marriage certificate) was fake. The alleged main agent, identified as Zahid, was arrested at the airport.
The FIA has registered a case and nominated three suspects, including Zahid, Nikah registrar Anis. This person allegedly conducted the fake marriage, and Fayyaz, a purported husband living in Saudi Arabia.
According to the FIA, Hira told investigators that she had been forcibly married and did not want to return to either her parents or her in-laws.
The agency has launched a further investigation into the alleged human trafficking attempt and is conducting raids to arrest the other nominated suspects.
Officials are additionally investigating the circumstances surrounding the girl’s alleged forced marriage and the arrangements made to send her to Saudi Arabia.
