India has fully opened all spillway gates of the Salal Dam, causing water discharge into the Chenab River towards Pakistan and prompting an alert for low-lying areas.

According to the Flood Forecasting Division, around 150,000 cusecs of floodwater has been released from the dam. Officials cautioned that Head Marala, Khanki and Qadirabad on the Chenab may face severe pressure due to the rising water flow.

The statement said a high flood wave is anticipated to pass through Head Marala within the next 48 hours. Local administrations in areas linked to the Chenab River have been directed to remain on alert.
