The federal government has rolled out a hepatitis screening drive for government employees working in Islamabad, starting August 18.

Under the initiative, employees of all federal ministries and institutions will be screened for hepatitis. Federal Minister Mustafa Kamal will formally launch the hepatitis C screening program at the Ministry of Health.

Employees who test positive for hepatitis C will receive free PCR tests for further diagnosis. Free medicines will also be provided to administration employees who test positive.

The government has allocated Rs. 67 billion for the Prime Minister’s Hepatitis Program, including Rs. 1 billion for the initiative during the current fiscal year.

While hepatitis C samples are currently being tested at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), as part of the program, 50,000 testing kits have been purchased.
