Dindigul Superintendent of Police S. Jeyakumar has appointed a Special Grievance Redressal Officer for persons with disabilities to ensure that all laws concerning persons with disabilities are strictly followed.

The appointment was made as per Section 23 (1) of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) S. Karunakaran has been appointed as the Special Grievance Redressal Officer.

The designated officer has been instructed to ensure that laws concerning Persons with Disabilities are strictly followed, facilitate persons to submit their grievance petitions without any hindrance and to conduct proper inquiries and take necessary actions based on the complaints received from persons with disabilities.

The decision comes following a request produced by Tamil Nadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently Abled and Caregivers (TARATDAC). The TARATDAC said there were significant delays by authorities in redressing the grievances of their members. Several protests were additionally held in this regard. The association submitted a petition to the Superintendent of Police requesting the appointment of a dedicated officer.

Acting on the petition, the Superintendent of Police issued an order appointing a Special Officer to redress the grievances of differently abled persons. The TARATDAC members extended their gratitude to the Superintendent of Police for accepting their request.
