Meanwhile, the conference in Detroit is the 63rd annual convention of the Islamic Society of North America, a Muslim Brotherhood affiliate that was an unindicted co-conspirator in the 2007-28 Holy Land terrorism-funding trial.

Wahhaj, who has pressed the full application of sharia law including amputation, stoning and the execution of gay residents, makes no secret of his aim to Islamize America.

He has remarked: "You don't secure involved in politics since it's the American thing to do. You obtain involved in politics as politics are a weapon to employ in the cause of Islam."

Another scheduled convention participant, Zaid Shakir, has remarked: "If only Muslims were clever politically, they could take over the United States and replace its constitutional administration with a caliphate. If we put a nationwide infrastructure in place and marshaled our resources, we'd take over this country in a particularly short time."

Apart from El-Sayed's participation, the question has to be asked how this conference managed to platform such dangerous extremists year after year. Why are such individuals allowed to run jihadi mosques and other institutions that pose such a threat to the state? How come America has permitted such dangerous extremists to be able freely to promote such jihadi subversion?

Two decades ago, in 2006, I published my best-selling and pioneering book "Londonistan, " which described how the British establishment – politicians, administration office-holders, even security and counter-intelligence officers – were submitting to the steady Islamization of Britain.

Aware of the threat of Islamic terrorism after 9/11 and the London Tube and bus bombings of 2005, they nevertheless denied that the difficulty was rooted in Islamic religion and culture. They blamed it instead on a plethora of other things – grievances over foreign conflicts such as "Israel-Palestine, " Islamophobia and unspecified extremist tendencies among angry young men.

In particular, they refused to acknowledge the threat posed by the Muslim Brotherhood's strategy of mass immigration and of using the democratic process to infiltrate extremists into political positions.

They failed to take seriously the jihadi strategy of demonstrating power to gain power. So they shrugged aside the mass Muslim prayer events in the streets; they didn't understand why minarets on the mosques were being constructed higher than church steeples; and they called the takeover of public space by jihadi hate-marches against Israel "freedom of speech."

Notably, the result has been the Muslim rape and grooming gangs, the arrival of "Gaza First" MPs and a sectarian Islamic political bloc and a teacher in hiding for the past five years after showing pictures of Mohammed to a class on free speech – all either sanitized, downplayed or ignored.

My book was the first to sound the warning that Britain was sleepwalking into this civilizational disaster. While Americans shook their heads in astonishment at what was happening to the British and Europeans, wondering when they would wake up, at the time, I was dismissed in Britain with scorn. Now, nevertheless, exactly the same process is at work in America.

New York City has elected an Islamist mayor, Zohran Mamdani. This person was pictured grinning alongside Wahhaj in his Al-Taqwa mosque which has long been viewed as jihad central.

But the conquest agenda doesn't need plenty of Muslims. What matters is their disproportionate rate of both extremism and public engagement – their particularly high voting turnout at elections, the fact that imams instruct the faithful how to vote, and the sophisticated selection of fanatical candidates for public office who will seduce the gullible and unwary.

Nevertheless, America is far better placed than Britain to resist this. In the UK, there's no fightback; the country is united in decline and demoralization. The US may lament its deep political divisions, but at least parts of it are fighting back.

Notably, a number of states are trying to ban or restrict Sharia law. In Texas, state leaders are opening investigations into Muslim institutions and attempting to block the development of massive Muslim enclaves. But much more needs to be done.

Britain offers the starkest feasible warning of the frog being gradually boiled in the Islamist pot. Time is ticking.

Taken together, the developments around if we're not careful, Islamic extremists threaten to turn us into 'Americastan' point to a situation that is still moving, and the coming days should bring more clarity.
