SL vs IND Live: WICKET! Jaiswal dismissed
Early blow for India
Three balls into the innings and India have already lost Yashasvi Jaiswal. Asitha Fernando offered plenty of width, but Jaiswal stayed rooted in his crease and chased the delivery, edging it through to Niroshan Dickwella behind the stumps.
A needless dismissal and exactly the start Sri Lanka would have wanted.
SL vs IND Live: Day 4 underway in Galle
And we are off! Yashasvi Jaiswal takes strike as Asitha Fernando has the new ball in hand for Sri Lanka.
India resume on a 178-run first-innings lead, with Jaiswal and KL Rahul walking out with a clear job: pile on the pressure before the weather gets a say.
All ready for Day 4 action
We are now just minutes away from Day 4 getting underway in Galle, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul already padded up and ready to walk out.
India hold a 178-run lead and have plenty of time to build a sizeable advantage, but with the weather still lurking, the timing of their declaration could be just as important as the runs they score.
SL vs IND live: Rain, will you stay away?
The big question for Day 4 is whether Galle’s weather will finally behave. After rain swallowed large chunks of the first two days, Day 3 was largely spared, and the forecast still carries a shower threat this morning.
For now, though, the sun is out and India are already on the field, huddled around head coach Gautam Gambhir. Shubman Gill appears to be doing most of the talking, with the Indian camp likely weighing the balance between adding enough runs in the third innings and leaving themselves sufficient time to push for a result.
There is a bit of weather roulette involved here. India have a 178-run lead, but they cannot bat forever with rain potentially eating into the remaining time. Sri Lanka will also know that every extra over India spend at the crease could produce their task with the ball even tougher.
Day 3 recap: Suthar, Jadeja put India in control
Day 3 finally gave India the uninterrupted cricket they had been waiting for after rain dominated the opening two days. Although the hosts made them work for it.
India went on only two runs to their overnight 460/9 before Mohammed Siraj struck early, the visitors bowled Sri Lanka out for 284 to take a 178-run lead. Manav Suthar then took centre stage, using flight, dip, bounce and turn to trouble Sri Lanka’s top order. While Ravindra Jadeja claimed three wickets, including his 350th Test scalp.
Sri Lanka were shortly 90/5, but Niroshan Dickwella and Sonal Dinusha changed the mood completely, he finished with 4/76. The pair added 146 for the sixth wicket, repeatedly using the sweep to counter India’s spinners. While Dinusha went on to score his maiden Test hundred.
India eventually broke through and cleaned up the tail, but Sri Lanka’s resistance ensured the visitors had to work for their lead, dickwella made 80. The hosts were bowled out for 284, leaving India with a strong advantage heading into their second innings.
Galle’s weather did have the final say, with rain bringing Day 3 to an early close. Still, unlike the first two days, most of the scheduled play was completed, leaving India in a strong position heading into Day 4.

SL vs IND live: Good morning from Galle!
Day 4 is here, and after the first two days were largely chewed up by rain, there is finally some hope of a full day of cricket. Day 3 stayed largely dry, allowing India to bowl Sri Lanka out for 284 and take a 178-run first-innings lead.
Galle is cloudy again this morning, so the weather remains a lurking subplot. But if the skies behave, Sri Lanka will have to bowl again as India return to the crease, looking to stretch their advantage and set up a sizeable target.
The hosts will know they cannot afford another collapse with the ball. India, meanwhile, will want their batters to make Sri Lanka’s spinners work hard after Manav Suthar and Ravindra Jadeja did the damage yesterday.
After Sonal Dinusha’s hundred and Niroshan Dickwella’s gritty 80 demonstrated that this pitch can still reward patience and smart shot selection, Day 4 could come down to who handles the conditions better. As always in Galle this week, the first opponent to watch will be the clouds.
