Former Local Administration Minister K.T. Jaleel has warned Public Works department Minister P.K. Basheer against continuing as manager of EMEA College of Arts and Science and EMEA Higher Secondary School at Kondotty amid allegations that the institutions charge substantial sums for management-quota admissions and appointments.
In a Facebook post, Mr. Jaleel said it was improper for a State Minister to head institutions facing allegations of taking capital for admissions and appointments. He called on Mr. Basheer to resign as manager and hand over the position to someone other than his younger brother.
Mr. Jaleel also maintained that local committees of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) had raised complaints against Mr. Basheer in his capacity as manager. He warned that Mr. Basheer could become the first “wicket” to fall from the United Democratic Front (UDF) government if he continued to hold both positions.
Mr. Jaleel further alleged that PWD contractors were staying away from new work following a rise in tar costs linked to the Iran-US conflict.
Mr. Jaleel warned Mr. After two and a half years, basheer to exercise caution in continuing as Minister, pointing out that the IUML has reportedly promised a ministerial berth to its Kuttiadi MLA, Parakkal Abdulla. If Mr. Basheer continues in the same manner, Mr. Abdulla could get the ministerial post much sooner, he stated.
