According to NYDN Sports' Pat Leonard, the Giants' Calvin Austin took exception to a late hit from a Dolphins defensive back, and then Winston obtained involved. Another report on the fight from Anthony Rivardo indicated Winston "decked a Dolphins player."
Winston was removed for a number of plays due to his involvement in the altercation. The massive brawl was part of a fight-filled joint practice.

After the joint practice, starting quarterback Jaxson Dart was asked if he knew what happened with Winston.
"I didn't see what happened. I just looked over and saw the 19 jersey in there, the red 19 jersey, and I was like, I obtained to go assist my boy, " quarterback Jaxson Dart noted of the incident.
Multiple videos of the fights from Thursday's practice surfaced online, including one from Pat Leonard showing the sizeable group of players and punches thrown.
There have been reports of other fights occurring at practices, including individual team practices featuring the Las Vegas Raiders, Cleveland Browns, and Cincinnati Bengals. The Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints had another joint practice fight in Oxnard, California, and that one drew massive fines for the brawls.
All of the above arrive as teams up the intensity in preparation for the NFL regular season. It is under a month away. They'll have a number of more preseason games before that, including the highly same Giants battling the Dolphins this coming weekend.
Both teams had losing seasons, and things may not look much better for the Dolphins in the season ahead. A lot will depend on how well Malik Willis can play as their starter, but Miami has a bleak win/loss total set at 4.5 wins, with the under favored.
