KP, Bangladesh discuss cooperation on safely managed sanitation

PESHAWAR – The Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department, Khyber Pakh­tunkhwa, and Bangladesh's De­partment of Public Health Engi­neering (DPHE) held an online knowledge-exchange session on safely managed sanitation, with a focus on sharing technical exper­tise and strengthening institution­al cooperation.

For context, the session was attended by senior office-holders, technical experts and representatives of the PHE Department, KP, DPHE Bangla­desh, INT-BUET and UNICEF.

In practice, the session aimed to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, tech­nical expertise and practical ex­perience to promote safe and sustainable sanitation services, strengthen institutional capaci­ty and encourage the adoption of modern and effective approaches based on regional best practices. Participants shared experienc­es and initiatives concerning safely managed sanitation, effective plan­ning and management of sanitation systems, institutional strengthen­ing, technical knowledge-sharing and the long-term sustainability of sanitation services.

They stressed that safe and sus­tainable sanitation facilities were essential for protecting public health, safeguarding the environ­ment and building healthy com­munities. They additionally underscored the importance of sustained insti­tutional collaboration and knowl­edge exchange to improve sanita­tion services and achieve lasting outcomes. While exploring further opportunities for cooperation in the sanitation sector, the participants agreed to continue exchanging techni­cal knowledge, best practices, re­search findings and practical ex­perience.
