"For most Pakistanis, investing has always been something that happens somewhere else. In a branch, behind paperwork, with a minimum balance that ruled you out before you began. When we removed the branch visit and the paperwork, individuals came in numbers that surprised the entire market, and most of them were opening their first investment account. In practice, the partnership was formally unveiled at a ceremony in Islamabad attended by senior representatives from Pakistan's financial ecosystem, including Muzaffar Mirza, Commissioner at the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan; Naveed Qazi, CEO of the National Clearing Firm of Pakistan Limited; Badiuddin Akber, CEO of the Central Depository Business of Pakistan; Jahanzeb Khan, CEO of easypaisa; and Mahmood Ali Shah Bukhari, CEO of KTrade.

For context, the integration was built by KTrade's in-house product and engineering team under M Hozaifa Ejaz, Managing Director of Product, Technology and Digital. This person has led the company's digitisation of investor onboarding.

Digital onboarding of this kind depends on infrastructure built by Pakistan's capital market institutions. While the Central Depository Business enabled the underlying infrastructure the integration runs on, the National Clearing Firm of Pakistan has been central to digitising brokerage account onboarding.

Retail participation in Pakistan's stock market remains low relative to the size of the population. By placing account opening inside an app millions already employ for payments, the partnership targets first-time investors who have never held a brokerage account, particularly outside the major cities.
