Mining to resume in Bihar after October 15, says CM Samrat Choudhary

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Monday (August 17, 2026) announced that the State will resume the mining operation after October 15.

Mr. Choudhary made this statement after inaugurating a workshop on the auction of critical and strategic mineral blocks in Patna. The Ministry of Coal and Mines, Government of India, organised the workshop. He also declared that the administration will conduct a survey of 44 mining blocks in Bihar and that work will be undertaken to make these mining blocks operational within a period of nine months.

Addressing the gathering, the Bihar CM said that infrastructure development requires materials such as stone and other minerals. He stated that the State’s resources would be optimally utilised for the benefit of the people of Bihar.

“Tenders have been issued for several mineral blocks, and the process is underway for others. Officials are actively engaged in this task, and the work is anticipated to be completed within nine months. Survey work has progressed for 28 out of the 44 coal blocks, and more than 30 coal blocks will be allocated before September 30. Initiatives to resume mining operations in Bihar will be set in motion starting October 15,” Mr. Choudhary said.

With Bihar’s budget now reaching ₹3.47 lakh crore, several significant development projects are being rapidly executed throughout the State. He mentioned that Bihar is not lacking in resources, and the goal is to accelerate progress in the public interest by making optimal use of these resources.

He asserted that mineral royalties would be used for the welfare of the residents and the State’s development, ensuring that mineral wealth is not misused at any level.

“Efforts will be made to achieve an investment target of ₹5 lakh crore by November, alongside the establishment of mineral centres in the State. Discussions have also been held with the Union Minister of Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy,” Mr. Choudhary said.

According to The Chief Minister, various concessions are being offered to investors to set up industries in the State. He urged everyone to invest in Bihar with an open mind and contribute to the State’s advancement. He assured investors that they are completely safe here and encouraged them to proceed with their work without apprehension, promising full support from the Bihar administration.

The event was also addressed by Satish Chandra Dubey, Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines, and Kadam Sandeep V, Joint Secretary in the Union Ministry of Coal and Mines.
