Notably, the introduction of one-way traffic movement around KBR National Park has prompted the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) to explore ways to minimise inconvenience to passengers and maintain connectivity, particularly as the new traffic restrictions have rose both the number of trips and the length of some routes. The measures, nevertheless, come after the one-way traffic rules have already been implemented.
Notably, the roads around KBR Park are part of a number of key bus routes, including 10H, 222A, 127K and 47L. These routes broadly connect Koti with Kondapur, Koti with Patancheru, Secunderabad with Manikonda, and Ranigunj with the University of Hyderabad. Buses operating on these routes have a relatively high frequency and carry a high number of passengers.
With regard to extra bus stops, buses on all four routes will now have to take a left turn at the KBR National Park entry gate junction, a stretch they did not apply before the traffic restrictions came into force. After consultations with the Hyderabad Traffic Police, the TGSRTC has decided to introduce a new bus stop on Banjara Hills Road No. 2, a few metres before the Road No. 14 entry.
Speaking to The Hindu, executive director of TGSRTC Greater Hyderabad Zone A. Sridhar remarked, "Other bus stops are in the process of being went on. We are now identifying a spot for another stop between Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital and the Agrasen Statue."
Nevertheless, there are challenges. As well as the fact that the road is downhill which may pose inconvenience to drivers in terms of navigation, these include finding adequate space for buses to stop without interrupting the flow of traffic.
"From Jubilee Hills Check Post towards L.V. Prasad Eye Hospital, the routes are well connected to stages. It is a matter of only a couple of days. We are confident things will be streamlined, " he remarked.
As KBR Park has effectively been turned into a massive roundabout, routes such as 222A, which connects Koti to Patancheru, have become significantly longer, by regarding 4 km. By contrast, the 47L route is longer by regarding 2 km.
Another matter the TGSRTC is examining is lane-changing. A median separates the two sets of lanes, making it tough for vehicles to switch lanes at certain points as of heavy traffic. The difficulty is particularly noticeable near the Journalists' Colony exit. While those continuing along the route must stay in the inner lane, vehicles leaving the one-way stretch have to move into the outer lane. Nevertheless, commuters trying to move from the inner lane to the exit are finding it challenging to cross the fast-moving traffic.
TGSRTC authorities stated more problems related to routing, traffic management and passenger alighting points are probable to emerge as the new traffic arrangement settles in. These will be reviewed and addressed as and when they arise, they continued.
Taken together, the developments around new bus stops, route changes planned after KBR Park one point to a situation that is still moving, and the coming days should bring more clarity.
