"Republicans are more likely to graduate from Southern public universities, while Democrats are slightly more likely to go to private Northeastern schools, " the study outlined. "It is tough to say how those differences might impact their policymaking or political strategy. But put together, the two workforces look fundamentally different from the general population in their education and backgrounds. It impacts the policies they focus on and the way they communicate."

According to the research published in August, "virtually every legislative, administrative, communications, or press-related Senate staff member graduated with a four-year degree."

"While about three in four college graduates in the U.S. Attended a public university, the public-private split is effectively even among Senate staffers: 54 percent graduated from a public university and 46 percent graduated from a private university, " the research documented.

As for staffers with graduate degrees, the research discovered that 31% of all Senate staffers have attained a master's, professional, or doctoral degree.

"Democratic Senate staffers are more likely to hold a graduate degree than Republican staffers: 35 percent versus 28 percent, respectively, " the report stated, noting that Georgetown is the top destination for law school among Senate staffers, followed closely by American, George Washington, and Harvard. The average Senate staffer age is 33 years old.
