Pakistan has been named among the world’s most unique travel destinations for 2026 by leading British newspaper The Telegraph. It highlighted the country’s towering mountains, ancient heritage and adventurous travel experiences.
The travel feature, written by travel writers Benedict Allen and Sarah Marshall, presents Pakistan as a destination for travelers looking for experiences beyond conventional tourism.
Northern Pakistan received particular attention, with the report highlighting the Karakoram range, where several peaks rise above 25,000 feet. The feature also praised Hunza Valley, its glaciers and wildflower-covered plateaus.
The Telegraph described the Karakoram Highway as an engineering marvel connecting Pakistan with China. The road passes through dramatic mountain terrain where the Karakoram, Himalayas and Hindu Kush meet.
The writers also highlighted the hospitality of residents living in remote mountain communities, noting that travelers can experience their everyday lives, traditions and culture alongside the region’s natural beauty.
What happened
Beyond the mountains, the feature pointed to Pakistan’s ancient history, including remnants of the Silk Road, Lahore’s 17th-century Badshahi Mosque and drainage systems dating back to the Indus Valley settlements around 2500 BC.
The report acknowledged that traveling through Pakistan can be physically and mentally demanding, but said this difficulty is part of its appeal.
Pakistan was listed alongside destinations including Turkmenistan, Gabon, Angola, Timor-Leste, Nicaragua, Guyana, Armenia, the Republic of Congo, West Papua and Papua.
The Telegraph had also featured Pakistan among notable travel destinations in 2024.
