ISLAMABAD: The Privatisation Commission (PC) remarked on Friday that local and international prospective investors had shown keen interest in the privatisation of Gujranwala Electric Power Business (GEPCO), with 11 firms and consortiums submitting Expressions of Interest (EOIs) to acquire a controlling stake of between 51 percent and 100 percent in the power distribution utility.

A.Ş. – Türkiye; Genvera Enerji A.Ş. – Türkiye; Cengiz Enerji Sanayii ve Ticaret A.Ş. – Türkiye; Al Sharif Contracting and Commercial Development Firm – Saudi Arabia; Engro Energy Limited – Pakistan; Sapphire Fibers Limited – Pakistan; Hub Power Holdings and Lucky Cement – Pakistan; Shirazi Investments (Pvt) Limited – Pakistan; Artistic Milliners (Private) Limited and Fatima Group – Pakistan; K-Electric Limited – Pakistan; and AKD Securities, Fast Cable and Mughal Steel Group – Pakistan.
For context, the Expressions of Interest and Statements of Qualification (SOQs) submitted by the interested parties will now undergo a comprehensive evaluation against the approved prequalification criteria.

In the long run, these measures will support create the conditions for more competitive electricity distribution and affordable, reliable power for consumers, " he went on.
