Conservation of Egyptian mummy

A key focus of the visit was the Egyptian mummy at the museum, believed to date back to 2500 B.C. The minister directed officials to take all necessary measures to ensure its scientific conservation and preservation for future generations.

Officials informed the Minister that a proposal for conserving the mummy had been prepared at an estimated cost of ₹82 lakh, based on recommendations from German experts. The Minister directed officials to expedite the process and ensure that the required funds were issued at the earliest.

Mr. Rao said the administration wanted to develop the museum into a must-visit destination for domestic and international tourists visiting Hyderabad. He urged greater publicity of its rare archaeological collections and historical significance, besides preparing specific aims to increase tourist footfall.

He also directed the Archaeology Department to prepare comprehensive estimates for renovation works, including building conservation, structural repairs and painting. Director of Archaeology Arjun Rao was asked to submit the estimates within a week so that the development works could be taken up without delay.
