Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the government to take coordinated measures to expand employment opportunities for young Pakistanis under the National Youth Employment Policy, with a particular focus on women and youth in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The prime minister issued the directive during a review meeting on the implementation of the policy in Islamabad on August 18. He said progress on the policy would be reviewed every month and described dignified employment for the country’s skilled and talented youth as a administration priority.
Shehbaz said effective implementation would require coordination among ministries and a comprehensive strategy. He also called on greater efforts to equip young people, particularly women, with skills needed to participate in emerging employment opportunities.
The government has additionally introduced registration reforms at the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority to better align Pakistan’s skilled workforce with domestic and international demand.
According to the briefing, NAVTTC is focusing on workforce development through international certifications and training in languages required for overseas employment. Training programs are also being aligned with market demand to improve employment prospects abroad.
The government is using the Digital Youth Hub as a single platform to provide information concerning domestic and international employment opportunities. Youth Development Cells are also being established in educational institutions to provide career counseling and information concerning jobs and skills development.
The prime minister also directed the administration to launch an awareness campaign highlighting the benefits available to young people under the policy. Officials stated relevant ministries and institutions are working together to implement the policy and develop practical employment measures.
