Diploma and Polytechnic students from throughout the State on Friday called on the administration to immediately withdraw GO 97, expressing concern that proposed changes could affect their identity, academic standards and affordability of diploma education.

In a representation submitted to Minister Vivek Venkatswamy, the aggrieved students pressed written and official safeguards covering diploma polytechnic education and sought intervention from the authorities.

They argued that diploma education is a distinct technical-education pathway involving specialised curricula, theory and practical training, laboratory work, examinations, certification and professional progression. They demanded that provisions under the Shakti scheme that could replace, merge, or restructure the existing diploma polytechnic system be removed from its application to Diploma education.

They additionally resisted any merger or equalisation of diploma education with ITI, stating that the two are separate technical-education pathways with differences in curriculum, academic level, training and qualifications.

For now, polytechnic students urge government to withdraw GO 97 remains the part of the story worth watching, and further updates are likely as more details are confirmed.
