Ahead of the upcoming local body elections, Prakasam District Collector P. Raja Babu directed the authorities to prepare a list of polling stations throughout the 62 divisions under Ongole Municipal Corporation (OMC) limits after the delimitation process. Presently, there are 50 divisions under the Ongole Municipal Corporation.
In a special session with office-holders of village Panchayats and Municipal Corporation at the Prakasam Bhavan in Ongole on Tuesday, the Collector noted that further ballot boxes should be provided to conduct the elections in view of the formation of the new divisions.
Meanwhile, the Collector suggested to appoint Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant EROs required for the conduct of elections. He additionally requested that the draft voters list be issued by September 3.
Speaking regarding the changes after the delimitation process, Mr. Raja Babu remarked, "Kandukur at present has 30 wards, and another 10 will be continued. In Chimakurthi, the number of wards is projected to rise from 20 to 22. The number of wards will growth from 20 to 28 in Darsi and from 20 to 32 in Addanki respectively."
Based on these changes, the authorities were advised to produce the necessary preparations. The Collector ordered the efficient execution of a door-to-door survey covering SC, ST, and BC voters. He observed that elections were scheduled for 514 Panchayats, involving a total of 5, 847 polling stations.
According to He further, the process of identifying SC, ST, and BC voters will take place on August 23-24. The draft voter list will be published on August 25. The objections over the voter list will be accepted during August 26-28. The verification process for SC, ST, and BC voters will be conducted from August 29 to September 2.
In practice, the process of verifying and validating the voters' list would continue during September 3-6. Instructions were given to release the final list of SC, ST, and BC voters on September 7, and to keep the public regularly informed regarding these matters.
