RAWALPINDI: Police registered on Monday a case of rash driving after a video of a moving vehicle with a person atop its bonnet and a motorcycle being dragged with it was widely shared on social media.

In the video, the person on the bonnet is seen holding on to the sides of the vehicle and the motorcycle being dragged along the road, having been caught under the car's fender.

According to the first information report (FIR), a copy of which is available with Dawn, the case was registered at New Town police station on the complaint of New Town Traffic Police Inspector Wahid Ikhlaq.

In practice, the FIR invoked Sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Notably, the account detailed in the FIR involves two cars, a black vehicle and a white one, identified as a Honda Civic.

Meanwhile, the FIR quoted the complainant as saying that he came throughout the video of the incident. After a probe, it was made public that the clip was from Sept 25.

For context, the findings made public that at around 11: 25pm, the black vehicle hit the white one. Then, with the white car's driver on the black car's bonnet, the latter hit a motorcycle, dragging it along the road, the FIR remarked.

Meanwhile, the white car's driver has not been identified, and neither has the driver of the black vehicle, against whom the case has been registered. No arrest has been created so far.

Meanwhile, the complainant termed the incident "clear proof of negligence, carelessness and causing harm". He continued that this act was a "clear violation of the law and intentionally damaging a vehicle".
