Authorities have registered seven criminal cases and invoked the Preventive Detention (PD) Act in one case against ‘errant’ rice millers in Peddapalli district for allegedly defaulting on delivery of custom-milled rice (CMR) in the recent past.

According to official sources, CMR dues worth ₹238 crore are pending against 38 millers in the district.

Peddapalli Collector Koya Sree Harsha said panchanamas were being conducted at 31 rice mills to verify administration paddy stocks, CMR deliveries and related records.

He said millers were responsible for delivering CMR against the paddy allotted to their mills to the Food Corporation of India (FCI)/Telangana State Civil Supplies Corporation Limited (TGSCSCL) as per norms. Any default in custom-milled rice delivery, diversion or other irregularities would be viewed seriously, he warned.

Office-holders had been instructed to conduct continuous inspections and panchanamas at rice mills. The Revenue Recovery Act would be invoked to recover the dues, besides filing criminal cases against those found guilty of diverting or misappropriating administration paddy, he added.
