South Coast Railway (SCoR) General Manager Sandeep Mathur, along with Divisional Railway Manager Lalit Bohra and senior zonal officials, inspected passenger facilities at the Visakhapatnam Railway Station on Monday (August 17, 2026).
During the inspection, Mr. Mathur evaluated the condition and operation of key passenger amenities and interacted with railway staff on measures to enhance station convenience.
A key highlight of the visit was the live review of the ‘Sarika AI’ passenger assistance system—a prototype voice-based interface currently undergoing trials at the station.
Developed jointly by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), Ninja Media AI Ad Tech Pvt. Ltd., and the Commercial Department of the Visakhapatnam Division, the pilot project provides natural voice interaction in nine languages. The system delivers real-time information regarding train schedules, platform allocations, delay updates, and coach positions. It also guides commuters toward essential station facilities, including booking counters, waiting halls, cloakrooms, food courts, drinking water taps, lifts, and medical assist. The set up is deployed in both humanoid and kiosk forms across suitable points in the station complex.
After the live demonstration, the General Manager suggested specific user-friendly tweaks to streamline passenger interactions. While Phase-II aims to integrate the Sarika AI tool directly into the official RailOne mobile application.
, phase-I currently focuses on field demonstrations and system testing.
