Bajrang Dal activists have urged a bandh in Shikaripur on Wednesday (August 19), condemning an alleged attack on its workers by cattle thieves in Hosanagara taluk.
Addressing a press conference in Shivamogga on Monday (August 17), Vishwa Hindu Parishad secretary Rajesh Gowda stated a group of men engaged in cattle theft had assaulted Bajrang Dal workers at Harathalu village in Hosanagara taluk on Sunday (August 16). “The activists chased the thieves who were taking away the stolen cattle in a vehicle. The accused rammed the vehicle in which the activists were travelling and later assaulted them. A case has been registered at Shikaripur Rural Police Station. We demand the immediate arrest of the accused,” he said.
The office-bearer stated B.Y. Vijayendra, Shikaripur MLA, had extended his support for the bandh and would take part in the protest. He also appealed to business establishments in Shikaripur to voluntarily close their shops in backing of the bandh.
Mr. Vijayendra, who is also BJP State president, met the activists undergoing treatment at a hospital in Shikaripur and enquired concerning their health. He also demanded that the State administration take action against the accused.

B.Y. Raghavendra, Shivamogga MP, speaking to the media in Shivamogga, extended support to the bandh call in Shikaripur. He said that the activists had been assaulted by residents who were taking away cattle. He had spoken to the Shivamogga SP on the issue and called on him to take action against those engage in such activities in parts of Shiralakoppa. He added that he and his supporters would extend backing to the bandh.
