Accompanied by Coimbatore Lok Sabha MP P. Ganapathy Rajkumar, and Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja, Divisional Railway Manager Panna Lal, on Friday, inspected the two railway stations.

For context, the platform levels will be raised for the safety of passengers to board trains and disembark, Mr. Panna Lal remarked. The work on raising platforms has already been initiated at Somanur station and will be carried out in Irugur and Singanallur stations subsequently, another senior official remarked.

Espousing the cause of the travelling public, Peelamedu Consumer Voice has been urging the Railways to expedite the proposed construction of railway underpass at Level Crossing 7, and construction of a service road.

For context, the Railways, sources remarked, has taken cognisance of the protest carried out by the Peelamedu Consumer Voice last month for early construction of the underpass in view of the periodic human deaths taking place on the tracks while crossing.

Plenty of school and college students and the general public face a compulsive situation of crossing the tracks every day.

Meanwhile, the travelling public had additionally produced a representation to the Salem Railway Division seeking stoppage of Cheran and Nilgiris Express trains at Peelamedu station.

In practice, the authorities are understood to have taken a stand that the stoppages would be considered after increasing train speed, to conpensate for the halting time.

While inspecting the Coimbatore North Railway Station, the DRM and the MP discussed possibilities for stoppages of more number of express trains at the station, earlier in the day.
