Special medical camp held for salt pan workers in Thoothukudi

Special medical camps for salt pan workers were conducted here on Tuesday.

The district administration is organising the medical camps for the benefit of salt pan workers and the first of the series was organised at Arumuganeri in Tiruchendur Taluk, Siluvaipatti in Thoothukudi Taluk and Vaippar in Vilaaththikulam Taluk on August 4.

The second camp was organised at Pazhayakaayal in Eral Taluk, Mulakkaadu in Thoothukudi Taluk and Melmaanthai in Vilaaththikulam Taluk on August 12.

On Tuesday, the medical camps were organised at Mela Sernthamangalam in Tiruchendur Taluk, SPIC Nagar in Thoothukudi Taluk and Periyasamypuram in Vilaaththikulam Taluk.

A team of doctors from various departments, including general medicine, ophthalmology, cardiology, obstetrics and gynaecology and orthopaedics, screened the workers. Those who were in need of further medical treatment were referred to Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital.

The last medical camp of the month will be conducted at Eral and Rajapandi Nagar near Meelavittaan on August 28.
